First Event of the Cohort Year: Complete!

On November 6 and 7, teachers from around the state gathered in St. Paul and St. Peter to start their journey as part of the American Indian History cohort.

We met at Historic Fort Snelling on November 6, where we discussed the cohort activities for the year, heard from Dakota and Ojibwe speakers, and learned about online resources. Lunch was catered by Tatanka Truck, which specializes in indigenous Dakota and Ojibwe foods. On November 7, we drove to the Traverse des Sioux Treaty Site, where we learned about treaties and treaty-making, toured the site, and talked textbooks.

Heidi and I are excited to be working with a great group of teachers! There was a lot of excellent conversation and sharing this weekend; thanks to all the teachers for asking questions and connecting with each other.

Onward to the rest of the year!
